Reporting

The software engineering stakeholders and interested parties are many and varied. Crafting a story that communicates the achievements and impact of software development on the business is extremely important. However, it is extremely important to report at the correct level for each stakeholder. An executive probably does not need to understand Sprint Completion %, but they probably are interested in top-level trends and areas that need improvement. At the same time, business partners will probably be more interested in the delivery status and projects being developed for the organizations.

It is important to identify the how, when and what to report to stakeholders. Usually a combination of metrics, status data and trend information should be used in “storytelling” reporting. The key is to identify the correct metrics, statuses and trends to use. Treno’s reports and dashboards help with storytelling and in helping software engineering organizations demonstrate their value.
